• PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

    The Cosmetology program offers an opportunity for a fulfilling career in a high-demand industry, where students can help people look and feel amazing. This comprehensive program covers a wide range of skills, including hair care, styling, cutting, coloring, wig applications, skincare services, nail care, makeup application, hair removal, infection control, safety procedures, and so much more. 

    Throughout the program, certified industry instructors provide practical training to students. Additionally, participants receive guidance for job-seeking, which includes mock interviews, resume building workshops, and workplace visits. 

    Upon completing the two-year program, successful candidates will be prepared to seek an AZ Board of Cosmetology License in Cosmetology. West-MEC also offers industry credential tests at no additional cost in this case as well. Through the Cosmetology program, students are provided with a clear pathway to achieve economic independence. 

    NATIONAL TECHNICAL HONOR SOCIETY (NTHS)

    The purpose of NTHS is to recognize, honor, and promote student achievement and leadership in Career and Technical Education. The pillars of NTHS are: trustworthiness, respect, fairness, caring, and citizenship. 

    Students have the opportunity to participate in NTHS after meeting eligibility criteria such as: high GPA at high school and in their West-MEC CTE program; CTSO/Volunteerism/Leadership, and outstanding professional conduct. Students who are inducted into NTHS wear stoles at the West-MEC Recognition ceremony to signify outstanding accomplishments.


    CAREER PATHWAYS

    Careers that a student could pursue after receiving their certification(s) are: hairstylist, color specialist, makeup artist, nail technician.
